Why Renaissance Idiot?
Yes. i know the name sounds cocky.
But there is a good reason behind the name, Fret not, the story is short.
It all started with following a youtube channel called Show it Better, and with the announcement of a live Portfolio Review. By my luck, I saw this annoucement way before most of the followers. And my internship portfolio is shortlisted for the review.
Next day arrives and here I am on the day of the review, sitting and waiting, I had invited my best friend Ishwar and he is ready for the absolute roast that was incoming.
The review goes live and each page is as excruciating to watch being reviewed. It wasnt all bad however, as there were some compliments sprinkled along the way. One comment by the two hosts of the show that went past me, but caught the attention of Ishwar was them calling me a 'renaissance man' because of the absolute variety of sub-par work I had listed in the portfolio, whether or not it was relevant to me as an architect or not. A title that I took as a sarcastic remark for my younger self's ego, in Ishwar's eye was a crude compliment and something for me to aspire to become. I brushed Ishwar's outlook aside and went ahead, now armed with the kowledge to not make a mockery of myself in the future. Thanks to the comments from the video, i was able to make a far bettter portfolio in the future.
Fast forward a few years and I am starting this blog and in the conquest of finding a suitable name for it. A distant memory of this particular night and Ishwar's justifications pop up in my mind. However, I could not justify that title. Hence, I altered it to a renaissance idiot. A person who isnt a buffoon in one aspect but in a variety of them. In some shape and form, I found it humourous and a reflection of myself and would serve as a humble remark if I do indeed become worthy of the title of a Renaissance Man.
And that is the story of how Renaissance Idiot came to be. Disappointments can be expressed in the comment section.
Cheers!
